MAME as a Linux .snap (snap package)?
« on: 03 March 2025, 01:54 »

I'm using a Linux distro (Solus) that unfortunately does not come with MAME in its repos. Ubuntu and Fedora are well-suited for .deb and .rpm ways of obtaining and installing MAME.

I was wondering if MAME was distributed as a .snap (snap package) at all by anyone? Several major distros are all starting to support it, including mine, and would help get around trying to manually unpackage .deb files and try to install MAME that way (currently failing due to other dependencies).

MAME is available as a snap package on the Snap Store, which you can install on Solus, Ubuntu, or Fedora using sudo snap install mame, though MAME developers do not maintain it. For better performance or if issues arise, consider using Flatpak or compiling MAME from source on Solus, as its repositories lack MAME.
