Duplicates that don't even exist
« on: 31 January 2025, 13:50 »

I used the new 0.2 release to check my MAME 0.274 ROM set. Initially, I got the following error:
Code: [Select]
Quizard (v1.2, Italian, i8751 IT 11 I2) [quizardi_12] [cloneof: quizard]
multiple machine: quizardi_12 [dupes: \\Mac\MAME\ROMs\quizardi_12.zip;\\Mac\MAME\ROMs\quizardi_12.zip]

Quizard (v1.7, Italian, i8751 IT 11 I2) [quizardi_17] [cloneof: quizard]
multiple machine: quizardi_17 [dupes: \\Mac\MAME\ROMs\quizardi_17.zip;\\Mac\MAME\ROMs\quizardi_17.zip]
I noticed that the file names of the 2 supposedly duplicates were identical, but there was just one of each file. Even after deleting those files, they are still shown after another scan as duplicates.

I can imagine that the output of the paths can be wrong and it prints out the path with the roms twice instead of the chd directory and the zip......

Maybe you have a subfolder where a chd is in (e.g. \\Mac\MAME\ROMs\\quizardi_17) and the zipfile is containing the roms...and maybe something changed in the 274 cycle so that the machine doesn't use a chd anymore....and a folder quizardi_17 and a zipfile quizardi_17(.zip) is a dupe....similar for the _12 set.

I will have a look later today...real life first :)

ok update:

A first test doesn't show any of such problems.....and I don't get your error......maybe you should double check which files and folders you have for quizardi_17 and quizardi_12 (folder and zipfiles...)
Maybe you can build a small scenario with just these files (can even be dummy files just named correctly) to see if this is repeatable.

Yep, I can confirm that it is a problem with the path names displayed. The "duplicate" files were in the CHD folder. As soon as I put them into the ROMs folder the duplicate message went away.

The situation was rather confusing and as my set is correct now I don't know how to recreate it. Here is what I recall:
  • there were ROMs missing for the quizard driver, which also has an associated CHD
  • the missing ROMs were in the fix folder and copied from there to the CHD folder instead of the more logical ROMs folder
  • although the ROMs were now shown as being duplicates of others, they really weren't and the fact that the log file showed them as being both in the ROMs folder did not help finding the solution
  • as soon as I moved them from the CHDs folder to the ROMs folder, the duplicate warnings went away
Sorry for not being more helpful  :(

hehe, no problem...I will play around with the scenario of chd rompath subfolder and the actual zip.....I'm pretty sure it simply puts out the archive path instead of the chd folder in one case so that you end up with the same information twice...

I created a scenario where I can repeat it ... so assume it gets fixed. The more interesting question would be, how was the zip file placed in your 'chd' rompath folder in the first place. A part of the source code checks the paths and tries to use the best fitting one. Wonder why it picked the chd one .....

Thanks for reporting!

lol...ok...I simply forgot to clean the dupes list when you do a scan....so the double entries come from detecting the same dupe event in a second scan....
Actually it always prints out only one location of a dupe file and does not list all occurencies....will think about it...maybe it's better to actually list the multiple paths.
