0.182 'missing' ROM
« on: 29 January 2017, 02:19 »

Roman-
Thanks for the prompt replies on my other posts.  Are you aware of the issue on Joshi Volleyball (josvolly)?  It was discussed in the thread at:

http://www.retroroms.info/forum/topic/MAME-0-182-ROMs-sooner-arcade-mess-.htm

Quote
That's not a real new ROM, it's a rename and has the same hash info as aa003.bin, but aa008.bin has baddump status.

It's probably being rejected as a duplicate in most ROM managers.

Perhaps this will require another small update to clrmamepro?  As you can see it seems to be some kind of placeholder ROM for the 2nd MCU.  Usually when there are multiple MCUs in a game, there are separate (non-identical) ROMs for each one.  I don't know of any other games where there are identical ROMs on different MCUs, but I haven't looked for them.  I don't know what clrmamepro's proper behavior is in such a case.

<machine name="josvolly" sourcefile="gsword.cpp">
        <description>Joshi Volleyball</description>
        <year>1983</year>
        <manufacturer>Allumer / Taito Corporation</manufacturer>
        <rom name="aa003.bin" size="1024" crc="68b399d9" sha1="053482d12c2b714c23fc80ad0589a2afd258a5a6" region="mcu1" offset="0"/>
        <rom name="aa008.bin" size="1024" crc="68b399d9" sha1="053482d12c2b714c23fc80ad0589a2afd258a5a6" status="baddump" region="mcu2" offset="0"/>
</machine>

I don't know if it's real or not.

-Thanks-

I got the message above as a reply when I asked for aa008.bin on RetroRoms.

I had the aa003.bin and the other files in the zip.

I only missed aa008.bin, and clrmamepro's rebuilder didn't add aa008.bin even after trying multiple times.

My workaround was adding manually the ROM.

I don't know if after that the scanner would remove or not any of the ROMs, I didn't try.

If you need the full dat-file please tell me because the one I used was modified (MAME was the basis).

coccola-
Thanks for the reply.  I didn't know if Roman was aware of the issue and was just pointing it out.

I don't see a problem. The set rebuilds fine (even if you only got one of the files), also the scanner handles it fine.

I don't know if it would change anything, but I had aa003.bin in the zip and aa003.bin in the rebuild source.

I didn't have any aa008.bin, neither in the source or the target.

Because they are the same files, I thought it should properly detect that it was aa008.bin too.

I too had a problem.  I had the aa003.bin and was missing the aa008.bin and ClrMAMEPro did not seem to want to fix.  I simply copied aa003.bin and renamed as aa008.bin within the zip files based on coccola's retroroms.info post and everything was good.  I just posted here to see if you were aware of.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I can't repeat that here. It just rebuilds fine. There is nothing uncommon in the dat.  Double checksums where the name differs is a pretty normal thing. The rebuilds finds the source file and creates all instances of the file in the destination.
In this case it creates two files.

Question is now what is different on your system. I've tested it with an import from an official mame .182 64 bit on a windows 10 machine with zip and latest 7zip (not t7z!). Split and full merged mode.

For me it was different, you didn't test exactly what happened with me.

I had aa003.bin zipped on the target of the rebuilder. It contained other files in the zip, but no aa008.bin.

I also had aa003.bin zipped on the source of the rebuilder. And I didn't have any aa008.bin on the source.

The rebuilder should then create and add aa008.bin on the target, but it didn't do that. It simply skipped that file, and when I scanned, clrmamepro said aa008.bin was missing. I checked it, the file really wasn't added.

For me I was using the latest 32 bit version (4.031c) in the scanner mode with 'Fix' checkbox selected for 'Missing' and 'Name'.  ClrMAMEPro usually detects and creates/adds the missing files but not in this case.

Thanks for the report.

For the rebuilder: Try to rebuild to a new archive (I on my side will test with an existing set in the destination). I will also double check the scanner fix missing (when the set already partly exists with one of both files in it).

So I did more tests...and still no luck.....I can't repeat any issues with that set.
I've tested existing, partly existing, not existing files (source/destination). A direct compare of 181 / 182..., scanner fixmissing and rebuilder....
always the same, it works as expected.

I can only image that your archives were somehow locked by the system (or other tasks......like virusscanners etc) when cmpro tried a write operation at it and failed....

I don't think so, because I didn't get any warning or error messages from clrmamepro every time I pressed the rebuild button.

Here is the dat-file I used, I hope it helps:
