I've been using split stes for years but wanted to try a merged set for once. Okay I got a perfect merged set of 0.167 mame and I updated my CHD set to 0.167. I used clrmamepro and I ran the CHD set and it's perfect but my my merged set of 0.167 mame roms not so much. I never had these problems before when updating or checking my split set with my CHD set before.

It says after the scan that

missing:
-sets 21884/35582
-Roms 57514/243372
-CHDs 144/855

I know this is BS and I'm sure it's my mistake, but his merged set I dl'ed and I know it's perfect. I even tried mameui_0.167 and in the settings my available games total is the same as the all games total.

I'm using the the latest cmp4026_64 version and I downloaded dats from progettosnaps.
By the way there 3 dats files in the file I downloaded from progettosnaps for mame 0.167. I'm using the MAME 167 Full dat but I did try the MAME 167 Arcade dat but got the same result. In the scan settings I've tried the merged set options but it makes no differences.

Also whats the differences between these dats there all in the same file.

MAME 167 Arcade
MAME 167 Full
MAME 167 Home

and no I'm not using nor do I have any of the softlist roms sets. I only have the mame roms and chds.

Thanks and hoping someone can answer all my questions. If I can't get this to work I'll just go back to rom split sets and update them as I've been doing, with no problems.

First of all, for MAME, don't use external datfiles. Use profiler->create and directly import the data from the mame binary. I have no idea what the difference within 3rd party datfiles are, so you might better ask the owner of the dats.

Secondly, your merge results. Well, don't care that much about statistics, the only real important information is what is shown in the scan result tree window. There is also a contextmenu option View->hide fully missing sets which should be disabled.
The number of missing sets is pretty high...so yes, something seems to be wrongly configured. As mentioned, check the scan results tree.
Also check if the title bar of that window shows something like x/y sets | x/y BIOS etc....then you have disabled some sets. In this case you should double check "systems" if all listed systems are enabled and maybe set-information->select all to make sure everything is turned on.

Whatever I try makes no difference, including making a Dat from the exe, and starting over with another clrmamepro. The scan tree pretty what it looks like I'm missing every rom and I also have a bunch of unneeded roms and folders too.

I've never had these problems with the non-merged set. I know the set is clean. So either I download the complete merged set every time I want to upgrade or go back to non-merge set and do the updates. It's too bad I liked the smaller set and having the clone files that are tucked away and sorted into their own sub folders

Take an entry from the scan results tree and check if it exists in the belonging archive or not. If it's listed in the scan result tree as missing, you do miss it within the current configuration.

"I know the set is clean"...well...Double check your rompath settings, double check if you use the datfile/exe-import which is valid for your collection.

update: ...and you may fiddled around with Settings->Full merge mode ...which should be on "normal mode" (as long as you don't want to use full subfolders for clones within parents...and maybe you changed profiler->options->parse rom merge tags
