App freezes when scanning specific DAT

(1/1)

stealth318:
Running v4.047, whenever I scan the snapshots DAT from http://www.mameui.info/, the app would freeze randomly.  No issues with any other DATs, and even with this particular snapshots DAT it was fine until recently.

I thought the scanner was stuck on a particular file, but if I move it temporarily out of the directly, the scanner would be stuck on a different file, so this is probably not it.  I've tried rebuilding the entire snapshot folder, but subsequent scans would freeze as well.  The files are sitting on a network drive, but I'm scanning other DATs regularly where the files are also on network drives and haven't encounter this issue with any others.

Freezing only appears to happen if "Missing" is checked.  If I run the scan with say just "Unneeded" and "Name" checked, it finishes normally.  If I check "Missing" as well, then it'll freeze on some random file during "Testing Unneeded".  Any thoughts?

Roman:
You‘ve got fix-missing enabled? If yes, turn it off.

stealth318:
Fix-missing is off, unfortunately same result.

Here's a cap of where it freezes and the scan settings.  I don't think the specific PNG file it froze at means much...

Roman:
Scanner->Advanced ->Fix Missing Options -> turn off "Deeper check for fixable missing files" and turn off "additionally test sha1/md5 matches.

Progetto Snaps collections use a lot of placeholder pngs where you usually have at least one copy available. So as soon as you miss one of such files, fix misssing (and the upper mentioned ones) look through all your rompaths/backup files...and that takes really long. And when the next missing file is detected it does the same over and over again.

So it's not freezing but it is busy like hell. For progetto snap collections, you should turn off all the fix-missing related stuff. The rebuilder should be used to add the missing parts instead.

stealth318:
That was it, thanks!  Funny enough I saw those options too but thought nah, can't be it.

Scans faster now, wish this "issue" had occurred sooner. ;D
