Simply download the latest version from https://mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/#downloads. I'd go with the zipped version (and of course decide if 32 or 64bit depending on your system). Unpack it to a non UAC controlled folder (i.e. NOT C:\Program Files) and double click the exe. The zipfile holds all necessary dlls and files, so you don't need anything additional.

No need to modify or create any ini file on your own.

If you start it for the first time you'd should see a welcoming prompt in the middle of the screen after some seconds.

Which Windows 10 version do you have?

I tried both the cmpro64.exe and cmp4044_64.exe container and both fail. With fail I mean that nothing happens, at least nothing I can see. I have tried to execute both in a folder that is on a non OS drive. Is there perhaps an older version I could try? Winver shows 21H1 19043.1237

If even cmp4044_64.exe (which is an installer) fails for you, most likely your virusscanner software blocks it.

fixed it, in case someone else has the same problem....
tried the application on my laptop (another machine) and when starting the exe Windows Defender pops up asking me if I want to run the unknown application. Now, this didn't happen on my desktop. The solution (at least for me) was to Re-register Windows Store. This took about 5 minutes of downloading and installing files, all automatically by following some steps that I found on the web.

Thank you for your support
