Split vs Merge
« on: 23 March 2021, 22:09 »

Hi Roman,

I have discovered a weird issue. Or at least it was an issue for me until I recognized:
The batch scanner seems to ignore forcemerging tags in dat files. So if I batch scan with merge mode on, it does a merge even if the dat file has "forcemerging split" set.
Now that I am aware of, I can circumvent the issue, but it's not what I expected.
So maybe an issue or maybe not :)

Thanks and best regards Duke

Well....The batcher options for scanner are either "per profile merge options" (so it doesn't change anything and keeps it from the profile) or you select an mode which overwrites the one from the profile

So yes, forcemerging tags are ignored since you do force an overwrite of the batcher scanner merge mode settings.

So...from this point of view it is expected :)

I understand, you are right, from that perspective it is really expected.
What I would like to do is always merge as much as possible, that's why I chose Merge instead of "Per profile merge-options". Would it be possible to add a checkbox or something like "Respect forcemerging tags" even if "Per profile merge-options" is NOT selected? Or is there any other way to let it merge instead of split or non-merge when batch scanning? Maybe I'm just using it wrong.
Thank you so much for your great work, very much appreciated :)

Well, I actually guess that a datfile forcemerging tag should be something with a higher prio in any case...
Such things are so rare and are put in the dat to really force the collection to be split/full/unmerged...so I think any batcher overwrite should still accept the forcemerging information from the dats.

Have to check if it's actually stored in the profile. Normally, the profiler reads the dat and sets the merge mode accordingly and doesn't allow changes...have to check if it also stores if the datfile actually has got a forcemerging tag..

I will check it.....

I had a quick look, simple fix.
However, it should also affect the rebuilder batch (merge) options and (being picky) a possible forcepacking should also influence batcher's rebuild pack options....

Guess I find some minutes this week to add this

Sorry for the delay.
I have just tested and it seems to work fine now.
Explicitely set "Merge", but it did a "Split" as set in the dat file.

Thank you so much :D
