Error when trying to download the newest version
« on: 24 March 2011, 12:06 »

I had an old version of clrmamepro installed on my 64 bit PC running windows 7 and everytime I clicked the Check Now button within the Update button within the About section of clrmamepro, I get the following error.

Quote
Can't receive version information

So I deleted the old version of clrmamepro and reinstalled the newest version at the time which was 3.137d

However a new version is out now (3.138) so I tried clicking on the Check Now button again but I'm still getting that weird error. Does anyone know whats going on or an easier way to update to the most recent version of clrmamepro without have to delete / reinstall everything?

64 bit windows 7 here too, no issues

- check if your cmpro folder holds version64.ini

- In which folder did you install cmpro? Hopefully not an UAC protected folder.....

Yes it's in the same folder as cmpro64.exe

If I open the file with a text editor it contains the following lines:

[CMPRO SETTINGS]
version = 3.1374
email = [email protected]
donate = mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/donate.htm
homepage = mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro
update = mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/version

- In which folder did you install cmpro? Hopefully not an UAC protected folder.....

Program is located in the following folder:

C:\clrmamepro

by the way what do you mean by UAC protected?

You either run a 32bit cmpro (cmpro.exe) and got the version64.ini file in place or vice versa.
Be sure that if you're running cmpro64.exe (not cmpro.exe) and you got version64.ini in your folder.

I was able to fix the problem by following the instructions listed below (in case any one else encounters a similar issue).

For Windows 7 - 64 bit systems

Note - You have to use the 64 bit CMD prompt and run it as administrator

1. Right click on desktop and click NEW – SHORTCUT

2. Create shortcut to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\cmd.exe

3. Right click on the new shortcut and Run AS ADMINISTRATOR

4. Enter full path and file name:  e.g. C:\Users\[YOUR NAME]\Downloads\SQLServer2005_SSMSEE_x64.msi
    Where [YOUR NAME] is the windows user you are using.

It should now let you update clramamepro.

Roman, Thank you again for trying to help me trouble shot the issue. I appreciate it.

Nah...such things are not needed.

Either you run cmpro from an UAC protected folder (Vista/7 only) (e.g. c:\program files\clrmamepro), then you need to run it as administrator or you use a standard folder (e.g. d:\clrmamepro), then you can run it straight away. Actually what you describe is a pretty complex form of it, having cmpro in an UAC protected folder and running it as admin.

The quick way is, drag'n drop the cmpro.exe on your desktop (this creates a shortcut) and right click it to either run it as admin or modify its properties to run it as admin.
But if that solved your issue, then you got cmpro installed in an UAC protected folder...which isn't recommended....
