Hi,

I'm setting up a R-Pi with RetroPie and have installed the consoles with 1G1R romsets nicely, and have now moved on to the Arcade sets..

I am using this guide from the Retropie forums;
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/20348/all-in-one-overclocked-rpi3b-arcade-rom-set-setup.

The 1st set I'm collecting is the Mame2003-plus romset, using this .xml
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/libretro/mame2003-plus-libretro/master/metadata/mame2003-plus.xml

I have started by gathering all the relevant Roms, Chds, and Samples and using ClrMamePro to Non-Merge them.
I believe I have everything that I need... and have run a rebuild and then a scan.
This is the output after the scan...

As you can see I appear to be missing some samples... (363 to be precise).

This is the scan results... (truncated because I couldn't post the full log).

I not sure whether I need all these samples (or where to get them - I've looked), or whether I already have them (but just not in the right place).
They appear to be the same as the ones I already have (although the files sizes seem to be smaller than the actual zips that I have bearing the relevant name).

Can anybody help/explain with what I'm missing.
(The OCD in me won't let me move forward with setting everything up until I understand/fix this  :) :o )

Thanks

All samples for current MAME can be found here: http://www.progettosnaps.net/samples/

The problem is that you're not using the latest version of MAME.
A version for a Raspberry Pi is most likely based on an ancient MAME build. Back then, Samples were needed for Berzerk. In our times they are obsolete since the sound/voice chips have been emulated (I guess this was done in 2007...so also 12 years ago)...

...so.....you need to search the internet for such ancient stuff.....

Thanks for the quick reply Roman...

You are correct about the old romset and had I realised that might be the problem that but wasn't too sure...
I think it's based on Mame 0.78 sets.

The weird thing is that I have got a copy of all the samples (I downloaded more than one from different sources) that go with that particular romset and and I still get the missing samples.

Just to clear something up for me please... taking Berzerk as an example.
The missing items in the list for set 2 is

"Berzerk (set 2) [folder: berzerk1 - parent: berzerk - sampleparent: berzerk - size: 12kb]"

What does this mean exactly? I'm guessing that "folder: berzerk1" means the file berzerk1.zip and "parent: berzerk" means that the parent is the bezerk.zip file.... what does the "sampleparent: berzerk - size: 12kb"  mean?
I have already got the bezerk sample zip but it's not 12kb it's 191kb... Have I got the wrong sample zip for bezerk?

Sorry for the noobish questions, I am familiar with clrmamepro  and have used it to create many 1G1R sets for the consoles, it's just that I have never used samples before!

I will in the meantime look for other berzerk samples

Thanks again for your help  :)

game name="berzerk1" cloneof="berzerk" romof="berzerk" sampleof="berzerk"

it simply means that the set "berzerk1" uses the samples of the set "berzerk". So you need the sample set "berzerk".

(For easyness, I reference zip archives only)
So in a split-merged set world you got:

rompath\berzerk.zip (the parent rom set)
rompath\berzerk1.zip (the clone rom set)
samplepath\berzerk.zip (the sample set)

in a full-merged set world you got:

rompath\berzerk.zip (the parent rom set plus the files from berzerk1)
samplepath\berzerk.zip (the sample set)

The berzerk.zip romset holds the rom files (1c-0, 1d-1, ...) while the sample set berzerk.zip holds 01.wav etc.

Hi Roman,

I just wanted to say a big "Thank You"...

You clarified a few things for me, and I was able to determine/understand that it was a couple of files that didn't have all of the effects in them.
I then sorted through the various sets I already downloaded and found the missing/incomplete zips.

don't care too much about the stats count..... an empty scan results tree window is the thing you're looking for ;-)
