Proper 7z/7zG usage with clrmamepro 4.029a
« on: 02 May 2016, 17:52 »

I'm to set 7zip with either 7z.exe or 7zG.exe with parameters:

Packer_7z_Add = a -y -r -ms=off -mx9 -mmt=4 -m0=LZMA2 -mfb=256 -md=384m %1 %2
Packer_7z_Del = d -y -ms=off -mx9 -mmt=4 -m0=LZMA2 -mfb=256 -md=384m %1 %2

I tried both exes and in both cases my processor is not utilized in 100% in fact it's not even in 50 % sometimes. Are these parameters good for LZMA2 compression with dictionary 384Mb ? I have 16 Gb memory.

You can check if you get similar cpu utilization when you run it from a cmdline on your own. Cmpro simply calls the commandline in an own thread...so there is no magic behind it.
When it comes to scanning/rebuilding speed you might even use a quick compression method anyway (or zip) and do your cpu heating up stuff as a batch job from cmdline...but actually I still wonder why people spend time with endless compression jobs in times where 1TB is around 50EUR....really...gaining a couple of bytes it's not worth the time.....

I did similiar tests with 7z and 7zGUI and progression as well final file size are the same so looks like I set 7z correctly in clrmamepro. I'm using now 7z only for Redump sets and size of archives is really smaller when I compare the same archive with rar or zip. Only rar sometimes can be better but only when I have plenty audio tracks in archive.

BTW. In Poland 50 EUR is not a small ammount of money ;)
