Problem with wrong cases
« on: 06 March 2016, 09:29 »

Latest mame seems to bring some problems with upper/lower cases for example Dark Seal or Karate Tournament. I've rebuilded whole mame 171 set and after scan clrmame ask me to fix upper/lover cases even if I've just rebuilded whole set. Any advise what's wrong ?

sounds weird...the rebuilder will aleays use the correct naming which of course includes case.
with latest mame you mean 171 or a nighly developer release?

can you provide some more info like e.g. a scanner screenshot, used merge mode etc....

thanks...a quick look shows something interesting.
While fixing the case isn't a problem here with the scanner, the rebuilder seems to have a problem with Karatour...which is really interesting since it's the 1st rebuilder problem since a decade or so ;-)
Looking at .171 I see that karatour and its clone karatourj share the same roms but use lower and upper case....definetly something hmm..not so clever in MAME's database...but definetly something the rebuilder should be able to handle...

so...yeah...you "found" something.

ok..it's not rebuilder's fault...but when reading in the dat cmpro's structures get a bit messy...basically due to the bad naming in MAME...
will need some brainstorming how this can get fixed....(or I submit fixed names to MAME ;-))

Thanks Roman. It's not the first time when something gets a small mess in mame :)

Well, I've "fixed" it in cmpro for now...however I don't see a reason why MAME should keep the weird naming like

rom name="361a07.17d" merge="361A07.17D" size="1048576" ....
