Here you are a list of ideas I would like to discuss with people contributing to the wiki:
- No dump / bad dump: how do we treat them? We ca easily generate a list of all roms actually flagged as nodump/baddump (I can do it with a simple query in the progettoemma database...) but how should it be structured? I was thinking about something like a page listing roms in this way:

Game title - romset name
    -   romname    actual crc/nodump flag
    -   romname    ....

May other informations useful? Would you distinguish in separate lists nodumps and baddumps? I would keep them together so you must look in only one place....

- This kind of operation can be easily extended to laserdiscs, as they are flagged as nodumps CHD in the mame informations. Shall we do it?

- There is a similar issue with the famous non-existing samples (the ones cmpro green-light fanatics replaced with the fake files but for these we have no actual way to do a autogenerated list. Shall we do it manually, to inform people MAME is missing these informations, in case someone with the hardware and a decent recorder can produce them, or should we simply ignore them?

Other advices? Ideas?

I think the format you propose would work fine.
Laserdisc, floppy disk and whatever should be listed.
Samples aren't worth the work to me, but I've been always against them, so I'm not the best person to ask.

first try. This is still unformatted and at present dynamically generated from the DB (that means heavy server payload). I will work on a way to generate this list every time MAME is updated, and to move this to the wiki in an automated way, as a static page.
At present, I decided to keep duplicate entries (eg, nodumps of parent roms for clone boards) because we actually don't know what a user can find, and if he find a "clone" board, he will be able to see if it is needed also to redump parent roms without having to check for all the parentship tree.
Any ideas on how ot improve this list? We can put in it any information present into the listxml infos, so don't be afraid to ask!!!

As a dumper, I would appreciate to have the size for the missing rom (if available)

No problem in putting it. I only doubt this information can be misleading in case of bad dumps due to "cut" maskroms

Just saw Incog created categories for bad dumps and partial dumps. Are they useful or even needed with S_bastian implementation in place?

They are if they refer to games not yet in mame. They don't if theya re in MAME. maybe Incog missed this discussion

I discovered it is pretty difficult for me to "autoupdate" a page on the wiki form progettoemma. Chances are:
- Simone installs the "include" extension on the wiki, and the page is updated FROM the wiki after every MAME update
- I "shoot" the page via FTP when I update progettoemma
- I will manually update the page after every update

This last one is the easier to do, so I'll begin with is, let's see for the future...

I really appreciate your work, but I think it's unfair to you if you have that much work to do every mame release.

Option 2 would be my best, but Simone might have something to say against sharing his FTP access (and I believe he has his reasons...)
page is very easy to generate, and I can include the generation into my batch update procedures, so it's like a "set and forget" thing And I'm having fun in coding these things (if only mediawiki DB was easier to handle by a direct query....

I think "actual" can be misinterpreted as "real", but I think you mean "current".

Hi guys, some of you just know me for my ugly & persistent presence in the Mame Italian Forum, so I'll skip to the point for them.

During a visit to the Undumped Wiki this morning I've had an Idea.
I really think that the undumped page, as it is today, is just a looooong gamelist, sorted by manufacturers. I've seen better structures in the well-known Wikipedia, just like This One. So I'd like to modify the undumped main page with links to stand-alone manufacturers pages, that have inside a game list only referred to that specific manufacturer.

It shouldn't be an hard work 'cause the page code is obtainable just with a copy-paste from a wikipedia page, then it's a simple work to adapt the code to our purposes.

I'm waiting for your thoughts.

it is better if you don't. it's easier to look for a title with the search function of your browser than go looking with the wikipedia searcy engine. It might not be that user friendly as the page you linked, but it is easier for maintainance and editing. keep in mind that this is not a site for kids looking for games

After thinking about it, I agree with S_bastian. The important thing for people interested in dumping is to have all games in the same page, so that a simple browser search will work.

Before you delete an entry because a game is emulated, check if arcade-history.com has the same useful information. If not, submit it for approval.

Game entries are almost never deleted. Instead they are changed to Category: Dumped.

The only things truly deleted are when games are named incorrectly, and occasionally if they were proved to have never existed. Even then, this is a wiki, the proof that the information was there is in there if you dig back in the wiki page history far enough.

I have pretty much direct editing rights (sorta like "moderator") to arcade-history.com (or at least I did) as does Osso, etabeta, SonOfPhoenix and of course Alexis is admin there. (Hm, I just noticed that Osso, etabeta, SonOfPhoenix and myself are no longer mentioned in the arcade-history.com footer... maybe he discontinued that idea in 2014, maybe nobody was doing it...)

However, it was nice to be granted these arcade-history.com editing powers but I almost never use them because I'm too busy with other things, so I usually just submit like any average person.

I send him emails when I notice big changes that need to be made. Alexis knows about the wiki, although I am unsure as to his mastery of it. Yes, it would be nice to have more links to arcade-history.com entries within the wiki, and more collaboration and communication, I agree.
