Drag/Drop in Windows 8
« on: 31 October 2012, 15:00 »

Drag and drop isn't working in Windows 8.  Didn't realize how much I use it until it wasn't working.  Kind of a pain without it.

Also, when I signed up for this forum, the activation link I received had semi-colons instead of ampersands so I had to edit it in order to activate my account.  Others trying to sign up might not know to do that.

well, haven't tried Windows 8 yet and don't actually plan to look at it very soon.....but maybe it's the common drag'n drop behaviour as it was introduced with Windows Vista. You cannot do drag'n drop operations between a source and a destination with different user access rights. That happens in Vista and 7, too....normally people can get around it by *not* installing cmpro in an UAC protected folder or running it with exclusive administrator rights.
So you might want to check such things first....

Ah.  Will do, thanks.

EDIT:

I'll post my simple solution for those looking for one.

Problem: After upgrading to win8, I got the exit message about the folder being protected or locked.  When running with administrator privileges, drag/drop ceased to work because as Roman pointed out there were still permission problems.

Quick Solution: Right-click on your clrmamepro installation folder (most likely in Program Files) and click the security tab.  Click the Edit... button to edit permissions on the folder, and give the Users group Full Control.  Click OK twice and that's it.  Now you can run the program normally and use drag/drop again.
