yeah...you got it. Scanner is set based, rebuilder is file based.

The fix missing scans all sets option was lousy slow ;)
Use the rebuilder to add missing files. It's way faster, supports all hashes and is the recommended way to add missing files. You can simply drag'n drop files into the scanner tree window for this.

If you want to avoid manual texteditor copy/past orgies, dir2dat may help you to create the datfiles.
dir2dat (in the Profiler), is a pretty simple datfile creator which scans a folder, reads the files and creates a datfile from it.

There is nothing like "load textfile xyz and use this as manufacturer".

There is however an option to use set description, year and manufacturer information from the currently loaded database. So if you got that option enabled and loaded a MAME profile in clrmamepro and now use dir2dat to create a datfile for a different (non mame rompath) folder, clrmamepro tries to match the created setnames with the MAME ones and then takes the information from that loaded datfile. Like "puckman" folder was found during dir2dat datfile creation, "puckman" is in MAME, it will automatically set the manufacturer/description/year tags from MAME in the new dat.

As I said...dir2dat is just a basic datfile creator....maybe DatWorkShopPro http://www.emulab.it/utility.php can help you.

What do you mean exactly?

If you use dir2dat to create a new datfile based on some files and folders, you got an option to match tags versus the currently loaded datfile. So you can load a MAME database and create a dat for some other folder where manufacturer/year/etc can be used by setname match.

but again...what do you want to achieve in detail?

See zips as sets and any files in zips as roms.
For example have a look at MrDo's artwork dat (available at his and my page).

Clrmame does not create any xml file..it's more the other way around. I was asked by an user to support "hyperspin dats" and he included a zip with several xml files for various systems. The xml structure was pretty straight forward (name, crc, manufacturer, year) but several xmls didn't include much information. I've added support to parse these xmls.

So much for the "basic" support.

If you got additional information or the format gets changed, or got new ideas to support, just let me know.

> Before running Clr I had 170 roms fail audit,  after I had 397

well...then I'd say your old audit was wrong. :) clrmamepro is pretty strict on some aspects of romsets.

I don't think you made anything wrong. If you used the scanner with all check and fix options enabled (which you don't seem to do, otherwise you won't have the "wrong name" or "missing but fixable" messages) you will get a fixed version of your collection against the currently loaded database.

so, 1st thing to check is that you use the correct database, i.e. the MAME version you're using should also be used for auditing. Best thing would be to use your MAME binary in the profiler: Profiler->Create-> ... There is no need to use anything else (like the mentioned rename dat). Keep this binary-based profile and everytime you replace the MAME binary, clrmamepro will detect this new version and regets the data from it.

Secondly, be sure you got all scan, check and fix options enabled. This means: Sets + Roms + Samples + CHDs (ok...samples is a bit optional in this aspect). All check options, name, case, unneeded etc...and the fix options right besides these check-checkboxes.

After a new scan with these options, you should not see your stated "wrong name" etc messages anymore since clrmamepro correctly renames/fixes the files.

Keep in mind, all removed files (due to unneeded check) will be placed in your clrmamepro backup folder.

Now you say that you don't care about *all* sets...well..then of course you will see some missing set information in the scanner tree.
Question is: what do you want to achieve? A complete set? Then keep them showed up and try to get the missing ones. If you're not interested in them, you can hide them.

For hiding there are several options possible: Either use the scanner popup menu->View -> hide completely missing sets, this will hide fully missing sets :) Or go to Scanner->Set Information (button on bottom left of the tree window). There you got options to limit the to-be-scanned sets either by manually enabling/disabling them or using lists of sets/regular expressions and so on.

How to add files to your collection: You can put new files in 'add paths' (settings->path selector->addpath) and fix-missing will pick them up or -the prefered method- use the rebuilder to add them. Rebuilder can also be used by drag'n drop operations in the scanner tree window.

Hope this helps a bit for now....documentation hasn't been updated for a while (yeah yeah...real life...)...maybe it also helps if you check out some tutorials here: http://mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/docs.htm

hmm..nothing that dramatically changed...especially not during startup...weird...maybe it's the UPX packed exe....send me an email and I will send you a decompressed version (or try the 64bit build if possible :))

ah ok...the missing bytes header also appears in www profiler mode...will be fixed in next version...for 2009, ignore it ;)

Go to Scanner->Set Information (bottom left button in the tree window).

There you got the chance to enable/disable the sets yourself either with use of variables, regular expressions or loading a list of sets. Either with or without automatically enabling parent/clones.

Missing Bytes/Total Bytes in profiler and html report implemented for next version.

Basic hyperspin dat parser implemented for next version.

3097
Looks to be a very easy xml format....no size entries, no filename extensions listed...just name, description, crc32, manufacturer and year...

I guess I can quickly add a parser for that for the next version.

....however I still like the idea of somehow supporting xslt transformations somehow so that only the transformation needs to be defined...anyway..no time for that at the moment....or maybe in the rewrite (>2012)....

for now I will add an easy parser for that format...

3098
simply send me some of their dats and I can check it

3099
Well...the official datformat is xml (even if nointro is still in old format).....and XSLT can be easily used to transform your Hyperspin XML into the official XML....

Either you learn and use XSLT....or you let me know where I can find out more regarding the "Hyperspin XML" format....

Well...merging is possible (actually with scanner, rebuilder and merger)....but of course the used datfile has to support it. The datfile defines parent/clone relationsships. So first look for you would be the datfile...if it doesn't hold any parent/clone relationship tags ("cloneof"), then you simply can't merge sets.
If the datfile is organized in a way that merging is possible, you can simply change the scanner's merge mode and scan/fix to get the set merged.....by the way, the scanner's merge mode is a good thing to look at...if split or full merged is greyed out, the datfile doesn't have any parent/clone relationships defined.
