clrmame Discussion / Re: software lists and subfolders

Simply adding the paths in the Misc_SoftwareLists entry works fine here.

I guess your problem is based on 6) Cmpro tries to open the .cmp file in a not-sharable mode and if it fails to open it, it restores defaults...

1) created a new profile based on MAME exe
2) loaded this profile and included software lists
3) after load, quit cmpro
4) created some software lists path, e.g. E:\temp\test\megatech
5) edit belonging .cmp file and set Misc_SoftwareLists = megatech|E:\temp\test\megatech|1|neogeo|*|1|stv|*|1
6) quit the texteditor
7) start cmpro and load profile

if it is profile based setting (which I actually cannot check since Im on holiday) then you need to set it in each settings (.cmp) file.
I guess I make it a global setting in the next release....

be sure the file is not locked by another process, not converted to v5 chds and of course valid ( run a chd verify and info on it ).

« on: 25 May 2012, 17:55 »
hmm...I've checked it with a standard drive letter F:\ and it works fine as it is....so it's not the folder check....actually cmpro tries to write a temporary file to the place and rereads it....if that fails, it resets it to the default...

Guess you need to set all related options for systems...most likely these:

Misc_BIOSSets
Misc_SoftwareLists
Misc_StandardBIOSActive
Misc_StandardMechActive
Misc_StandardDeviceActive
Misc_StandardBIOSPath
Misc_StandardMechPath
Misc_StandardDevicePath

hmm....I guess it fails (and resets to the default) since cmpro tests if the entry is a folder.....Guess removing the check will resolve this...I will put that on my list.

Generally you can install cmpro whereever you want. If you use a (VISTA/WIN7) UAC protected folder (like c:\program files) you may need run it with admin rights...

Regarding the cmpro temp folder, check out this
http://mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/binaries/cmp20120514.rar
and this posting: http://www.emulab.it/forum/index.php?topic=3388.msg13156#msg13156

It allows you to move the cmpro temp folder to any place.

Well...dummy zip isn't enough for the auto assign since cmpro looks at the hashvalues of the single rom files and tries to match the belonging software list...

Of course you can manually edit the .cmp file if that's faster for you.

well, first you need to decide which method you prefer:

1) X profiles for X sofware lists
2) 1 profile for X software lists

For the first method, you simply load all the software list xmls in the profiler as a batch (select them all, hit load, then the batcher appears). There (misc tab) you can automatically let cmpro create rompaths for you for each profile.

The second method is different. There you got only 1 profile for many software lists. This mode can be used if you directly import software lists from MAME or MESS (it asks you during import). In this mode you have to use system default paths / separated rompaths for each system/software list. The auto-assign option of course only helps you if you got rompaths setup already and got some files in it. Cmpro tries to assign the rompaths to the systems by looking at the files in the paths and tries to do a best-match assignment. If you got empty rompaths, all paths are assigned to the 1st one. So if you start from scratch with no files for the software lists, you need to go through the assignement hell once....

Haven't heard that. if there is an option I may add it but the general plan is to remove the external exe calls completely and use the sdk directly....but since I got nearly no time, din't count on it in the near future.

move the chd to rompath root, delete the now enpty folder and scan again so cmpro will move the chd to its correct place.

2374
Prefered method:

Do scan all, if you're not interested in fully missing sets, hide them with the scanner context menu option "view->hide fully missing sets" afterwards.

Not prefered method:

Go to scanner->setinformation and limit the sets (either by checkbox, regular expressions, avail sets button etc...), then scan.

should fix all the temp folder issues....

so I now scanned u8 and don't see any changed behaviour. I guess my previous post is correct then: If you scan for missing sets, chd-only sets are listed as missing-sets if you don't have the chd (or at least the subfolder as a dummy container).

what does the scan tree window output tell you? and what does mame complain about in detail?

As mentioned before, you must be aware that playing a set usually means you need more than that 1 set. In case of "18wheeler", you need the romset, the "naomi" bios set and the device set "mie".
Cmpro will of course complain about missing files in these sets (assuming you got all systems and devices enabled). So check the scan results tree and try to get rid of any entry in there.

be sure you've enabled all sets and systems and devices (thats the default but you may want to doublecheck it in Systems and Set Information Dialog, both accessible in the scanner). then do a new full scan with all check options enbled and the scan tree output tells you then what you're missing. be sure that you used the same mame binary for playing as used in the profiler to get the data from.

Sets usually need not only their romfiles but also parent rom files in case of a clone and/or bios roms and/or device roms. so for playing 1 set you may need in fact 3 (parent, bios and device sets).

clrmame Discussion / Re: MAME 0.145u8 scan issue

a set is a set, no matter if it consists only of chds or roms or a combination of it. assuming that you're talking about chd only sets, if you're checking for sets, they are listed as missing if you don't have the chd. see sets as containers. so it doesen't matter if you disabled the chd scan, it's the sets check option (which should not be disabled). you can fool cmpro if you create the chd subfolders though.
I 'm on holiday and haven't checked u8 but I doubt something serious changed.
