Undumped Wiki / Re: G-Stream G2020 (Possible 2nd Revision)
« on: 22 February 2015, 13:13 »

I tried to follow the instructions.
Not sure what you mean there bro.

Anyway, Shou has confirmed the revision board (with ship in title screen) definitely exists so I'll update the thread title if the forum functions let me. Talking with some folks last year after I made this post regarding the Triangle Service blogpost also seems to support that a later revision existed and this version was then the base for the DeltaZeal 360 port, suggesting significant gameplay improvements and bugfixes across the game (although some bugs remain even in the 360 version, notably the truck in Stage 3B giving points only to the 1P side and the ability to send the helicopter boss in Stage 5B flying outside the screen for a significant amount of time).

Undumped Wiki / G-Stream G2020 (CONFIRMED 2nd Revision)
« on: 15 September 2014, 09:24 »
G-Stream G2020 is a vertical-scrolling shoot-em-up made by Oriental Soft Japan in the early to middle part of 2002. Upon research by trap15 and myself a bit more was discovered about those responsible for its development - Toshiaki Fujino was the main programmer, "NAOTO" composed the music and an unnamed artist also responsible for the graphics in the Raiden Fighters games did the graphics here as well (this is most obvious in the text, if you compare the font to that used in Raiden Fighters its almost exactly the same with some alterations to letters for clarity).
It seems the developer had a dispute with its parent company, Oriental Soft (based in Korea), and they stopped paying him and his team, leading the game's rushed release and prototype-like quality in some parts. This led to ties with Oriental Soft being cut and the creation of Triangle Service who currently have the rights to the franchise.

In the current build in MAME, the title screen only has the logo and a blue water background. There is also no credits listed at the end of the game, although there is an ending and the words "PROJECT G-STREAM STAFF" listed as if there was intended to be such a list. Google Translate misses the specific implications but I found this post concerning G-Stream G2020 (which he's since renamed to DeltaZeal and published in a two game pack on the Xbox 360) which may possibly suggest that what the "world" got was different from what he had. Vague, language barrier included (and I'm hoping someone here can help me out with that), but I've found pictures from two Japanese websites of a version of G-Stream that appears rather different, I list a screenshot from MAME below and the higher quality picture of the two I could find to compare the obvious difference.

Yep, a big huge honking ship. I can confirm the dump present in MAME is not a "bad" dump as I've contacted at least three people with actual PCBs having the MAME version's title. The sprite in question IS present in the data, in fact after the credit roll said ship is seen flying up to the position where it would be on the title screen, fading to a dull colour (like in the second picture) and then disappearing completely before the title logo appears again. This behaviour too was confirmed on the board last I checked. And without someone with knowledge of the Hyperstone CPU that runs it I cannot absolutely confirm it's not some kind of unlock feature, if so its a very obscure one that's not in the documents that came with the board.

I humbly request that this be put on the Undumped list as perhaps someone who's seen this game in this form in Japan could possibly reveal more, ie gameplay differences, bugfixes or new bugs, inclusion of credits, etc. Like X2222 getting into MAME via the original programmer after he found it was listed as an undumped game making contact, I'm hoping someone who has a G-Stream board with this behaviour, or contacts in Japan and a bit better knowledge of the language and region than I, could help put this to rest.
