Thanks for the explanation.

Since I'm kinda of new to creating DAT files, I have a few additional questions

1. Does it matter if I type "machine name" vs "game name" in the DAT? Is there a difference?

2. What is the purpose of the "description" tag since it looks like it just repeats the same info in the "machine name" & "game name" tags with the exception of parent / clone relationship. Is the description tag necessary?

clrmame Discussion / Custom Parent-Clone Dat Question
« on: 13 February 2017, 15:46 »
Hello, I did a search and didn't see this posted so hopefully I didn't overlook anything.

I was building a custom parent-clone dat and I'm trying to figure out how to make the parent display a different name than the files contained within. Here is an example from a Parent-Clone No-Intro DAT file which lists the archive as Knuckles' Chaotix (Europe)

Code: [Select]
<game name="Knuckles' Chaotix (Europe)">
<description>Knuckles' Chaotix (Europe)</description>
<rom name="Knuckles' Chaotix (Europe).32x" size="3145728" crc="41D63572" md5="4CE9E6B6E8883D8A678D90AABCE022D0" sha1="5C1A2E327A656217604D4BAE7E141764A7E59922"/>
</game>
<game name="Chaotix ~ Knuckles' Chaotix (Japan, USA)" cloneof="Knuckles' Chaotix (Europe)">
<description>Chaotix ~ Knuckles' Chaotix (Japan, USA)</description>
<rom name="Chaotix ~ Knuckles' Chaotix (Japan, USA).32x" size="3145728" crc="D0B0B842" md5="47B1095E68B053125CD2CD5B1AC4EB50" sha1="0C2FFF7BC79ED26507C08AC47464C3AF19F7CED7"/>
</game>

Is there a way to name the compressed archive Knuckles' Chaotix without the region tag, but still have the following roms contained within the archive
 - Knuckles' Chaotix (Europe).32x
 - Chaotix ~ Knuckles' Chaotix (Japan, USA).32x

I've tried a few different things but I can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

It's nothing fancy and im probably over complicating work for myself but my thought is to import data from dat files into a spreadsheet to keep track of the following

1. Which roms i have in my set
2. Which roms im excluding from my set

I try to only have 1 rom per game but cant just select US or Europe roms since some were released exclusively in only one region so I was going through each set and selecting which roms to keep.

The problem occurs when a new dat file is released, how do I know what new games were added. Depending on the system, the miss list would be very large due to me only keeping one rom per game so it would be hard to identify what new games were added.

So my plan was to export the data to a table in a spreadsheet use a compare function to look at the crc32 values and indicate any new games that aren't already listed in the previous dat file.

Thank you for the quick reply. I'm not familiar with xslt do you know of any tutorials I could reference to help me accomplish converting dat files to tables?

Is it possible to convert a dat file to a cvs file with tables using clrmamepro i.e.

Rom Name | Size | CRC32 | MD5 | SHA1

well after moving the clrmamepro to the desktop it worked although I also decided to try creating the mame date in the default [Profiles] folder instead of a sub folder... I don't know if that had anything to due with it?

Well it's off to work now but I'll scan my set later tonight just to make sure it's working properly.

clrmame Discussion / Mame Dat help
« on: 26 January 2012, 14:38 »
Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I'm getting an "error while saving settings" error message when I try to load the mame64.exe into clrmamepro.

Just to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong,

1. Click on Create in the Profiler
2. Navigate to the mame64.exe file
3. Type MAME in teh description field
4. Select MAME as the emulator
5. Click Create Profile

I don't know why I'm getting the error but can someone post the latest mame dat file because I can't seem to get it to work  :-/

clrmame Discussion / clrmamepro hardware question
« on: 27 July 2011, 12:21 »
I noticed that some of the larger dat's I've tried to run through clrmamepro take an extremely long time to process fixes while sets like NES for instance only take a couple of seconds. What would make the scanning / renaming process faster? Would more RAM make the process go faster or would a better CPU be needed?

I'm just curious because I don't want to waste more money on RAM if it's not really going to give any speed performance.

I was able to fix the problem by following the instructions listed below (in case any one else encounters a similar issue).

For Windows 7 - 64 bit systems

Note - You have to use the 64 bit CMD prompt and run it as administrator

1. Right click on desktop and click NEW – SHORTCUT

2. Create shortcut to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\cmd.exe

3. Right click on the new shortcut and Run AS ADMINISTRATOR

4. Enter full path and file name:  e.g. C:\Users\[YOUR NAME]\Downloads\SQLServer2005_SSMSEE_x64.msi
    Where [YOUR NAME] is the windows user you are using.

It should now let you update clramamepro.

Roman, Thank you again for trying to help me trouble shot the issue. I appreciate it.

- check if your cmpro folder holds version64.ini

Yes it's in the same folder as cmpro64.exe

If I open the file with a text editor it contains the following lines:

[CMPRO SETTINGS]
version = 3.1374
email = [email protected]
donate = mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/donate.htm
homepage = mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro
update = mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/version

- In which folder did you install cmpro? Hopefully not an UAC protected folder.....

Program is located in the following folder:

C:\clrmamepro

by the way what do you mean by UAC protected?

I had an old version of clrmamepro installed on my 64 bit PC running windows 7 and everytime I clicked the Check Now button within the Update button within the About section of clrmamepro, I get the following error.

Quote
Can't receive version information

So I deleted the old version of clrmamepro and reinstalled the newest version at the time which was 3.137d

However a new version is out now (3.138) so I tried clicking on the Check Now button again but I'm still getting that weird error. Does anyone know whats going on or an easier way to update to the most recent version of clrmamepro without have to delete / reinstall everything?

I must not be understanding, when if I select the "set-subfolder mode" in the dir2dat function it doesn't keep the folder structure

dat Example:
Quote
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE datafile PUBLIC "-//Logiqx//DTD ROM Management Datafile//EN" "http://www.logiqx.com/Dats/datafile.dtd">

<datafile>
   <header>
      <name>-insert name-</name>
      <description>-insert description-</description>
      <category>Standard DatFile</category>
      <version>-insert version-</version>
      <date>-insert date-</date>
      <author>-insert author-</author>
      <email>-insert email-</email>
      <homepage>-insert homepage-</homepage>
      <url>-insert url-</url>
      <comment>-insert comment-</comment>
      <clrmamepro/>
   </header>
   <game name="test02">
      <description>test02</description>
      <manufacturer></manufacturer>
      <rom name="test03.txt" size="6" crc="a4231bf1"/>
   </game>
   <game name="test2">
      <description>test2</description>
      <manufacturer></manufacturer>
      <rom name="test3.txt" size="1" crc="6dd28e9b"/>
      <rom name="test4.txt" size="1" crc="f3b61b38"/>
   </game>
</datafile>

However if I modify the dat file manually using a text editor it works fine. Is there any other option I need to select in the dir2dat mode to make this work?

Is there an easy way to do this with dir2dat (or any other method) when creating a dat file or do I need to manually add the folder names to the dat using some type of text editor?

Thanks for the help!

clrmame Discussion / Folders and new dat creation
« on: 23 February 2011, 03:42 »
Hello, I have a quick question about roms inside folders.

Is there a way in clrmamepro to create a dat file that will ensure roms are inside folders?

For example: If I wanted all the Mega Man games inside a folder

Mega Man (zipped file)
  - Mega Man (folder)
    -  Mega Man 7 (rom)
    -  Mega Man X (rom)
    -  Mega Man X 2 (rom)
    -  Mega Man X 3 (rom)

Every time I try to create a DAT file to support this it asks me to remove the folders when auditing the new DAT I created.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
