whoops, I missed this...

http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=flyer&db=arcadedb&id=506&image=1

I would read this as Kyara Medaru Airando .The last part is the english phonetics for "Medal Island", odd the put in Romaji a wrong translation of the firts word, katakana says KYAra (キャラ), but they wrote CHAra (チャラ). True they are using "artistic" font (se the ME kana in medaru, it should look like メ) but this can indeed lead to mistakes

OK, no problem, we will wait for the situation to settle down :)

Posting at RB's could be a good start, that seems at least still a neutral place.
MC can be a good place, Simone and Ricky *might* make the links to the wiki a little more visible. Even some posts on MI should recall some attention on the project ;) :P

We can give it a try, even trying a post on MW without giving the link. I believe a good approach will be poiting out the targets we are reaching, and that with the amount of informations we are collecting, there will be a long life to the mame project ;)

Undumped Wiki / Re: Structure of the wiki
« on: 17 April 2009, 09:40 »
What might be done can be a "grouping" done by special pages, and grouping game pages by "80es, '90es and 2k's, but I agree with Osso on this. There are a lot of ways to look for games into the database, and I believe age is not a key to understand actual "priority". And, as Osso says, we don't want this list to become, as Guru claims, an easy way to find what we need most to increase prices. My personal opinion is that the list is not at all affecting selling prices, but if we can avoid riks, it is better. The internal search engine should be enough to fit anybody's need ;)

Thunder force is not the same, at least accordingly to arcade-history.com:

also notice the note on Thunder Force AC:

AC stands for 'ArCade'.

Option 2 would be my best, but Simone might have something to say against sharing his FTP access (and I believe he has his reasons...) ;)
page is very easy to generate, and I can include the generation into my batch update procedures, so it's like a "set and forget" thing ;) And I'm having fun in coding these things (if only mediawiki DB was easier to handle by a direct query.... :(

I discovered it is pretty difficult for me to "autoupdate" a page on the wiki form progettoemma. Chances are:
- Simone installs the "include" extension on the wiki, and the page is updated FROM the wiki after every MAME update
- I "shoot" the page via FTP when I update progettoemma
- I will manually update the page after every update

This last one is the easier to do, so I'll begin with is, let's see for the future...

The titleshot I can see is just

Hanfuda (the small yellow Kanji over the main writing)
Hanakagerou (the big ones)

No reference to the "Nehten", so untill we have any further evidence, this is another game...

Do some google checks if there are any reports of any undumped revision/version. In case there is not, there should be no problem in removing from the list

Difficult choice this one. Apparently the firm also refers to itself in both ways

http://www.8ing.co.jp/

At this point, let's stick on MAME's writing!

No problem in putting it. I only doubt this information can be misleading in case of bad dumps due to "cut" maskroms

http://www.progettoemma.net/baddump.php

first try. This is still unformatted and at present dynamically generated from the DB (that means heavy server payload). I will work on a way to generate this list every time MAME is updated, and to move this to the wiki in an automated way, as a static page.
At present, I decided to keep duplicate entries (eg, nodumps of parent roms for clone boards) because we actually don't know what a user can find, and if he find a "clone" board, he will be able to see if it is needed also to redump parent roms without having to check for all the parentship tree.
Any ideas on how ot improve this list? We can put in it any information present into the listxml infos, so don't be afraid to ask!!! :)

Undumped Wiki / Re: category for dumped games
« on: 12 April 2009, 11:08 »
There should be no need. If you look for the game with the internal mediawiki search engine, you will find it even if it is dumped. At the contrary, if you need the list of undumped Naomi games, using the category:Naomi, if also dumped hames will have the flag the system will show you also dumped games, and this is misleading.

http://mamedev.emulab.it/undumped/index.php?title=Capcom_Vs._SNK_Millennium_Fight_2000_(JPN,_USA,_EXP,_KOR,_AUS)

Accordingly to what we sait, there should have been no need to make this entry, since this game is already in MAME and will be included in the nodump list....

I believe it is OK :)  (also because I'm not willing to rollback all the dumped game enties!!! ;) :P

Undumped Wiki / Improvement Ideas
« on: 09 April 2009, 13:03 »
Here you are a list of ideas I would like to discuss with people contributing to the wiki:
- No dump / bad dump: how do we treat them? We ca easily generate a list of all roms actually flagged as nodump/baddump (I can do it with a simple query in the progettoemma database...) but how should it be structured? I was thinking about something like a page listing roms in this way:
Quote
Game title - romset name
    -   romname    actual crc/nodump flag
    -   romname    ....
May other informations useful? Would you distinguish in separate lists nodumps and baddumps? I would keep them together so you must look in only one place....

- This kind of operation can be easily extended to laserdiscs, as they are flagged as nodumps CHD in the mame informations. Shall we do it?

- There is a similar issue with the famous non-existing samples (the ones cmpro green-light fanatics replaced with the fake files ;) but for these we have no actual way to do a autogenerated list. Shall we do it manually, to inform people MAME is missing these informations, in case someone with the hardware and a decent recorder can produce them, or should we simply ignore them?

Other advices? Ideas?

Undumped Wiki / World Rally Championship
« on: 09 April 2009, 12:47 »
Ma questo gioco non è lo stesso World Rally dumpato da anni oramai oppure si tratta di quelche set specifico? Nel caso meglio specificarlo nel titolo no?
( Translation: Isn't this game dumped from some years yet, or is it just another not dumped set? In this case, shouldn't be better to specify it on the game title? ) Various For 03/22/09 @ 22:39.

----

I believe this entry was generate due to misleading informations from various sites. This game is referred often both as World Rally AND World Rally Championship. Sometimes this difference is used to distinguish the original Gaelco game from the Atari licensed edition, like in this page:
World Rally World Rally Championship
WR Flyers at TAFA
Both sets are in MAME. I could not find more evidences another version. If anyone has, please post!

Does this game really belong in the "undumped" category? If so, we should list all of the laserdisc games currently in Mame but without a good laserdisc dump.
Two options, but we should decide one way and apply it to all the entries: - Move the game to the "dumped" list, and put a "laserdis dump still missing", and do nothing else - Leave the game as undumped, same note about the laserdisc, and add to the list all the other LD. I would prefer the first option, becasue as far as I know many LDs are already available and only waiting for the correct input from the devs for the dump
An inbetween option could be to introduce the list of nodump/baddump generated automatically from progettoemma, as per your hint in the MI discussion. In this way, all LD Would be reported automatically in the parallel list, with the nodump CHD correctly reported
BTW, in this list we could add (by hand) the list of non existig samples, in case someone has the hardware and a decent recorder... ;)

agree with B (also because it will probably be ME autogenerating that page... :P
UNLESS there are known partial dumps but no driver entry in MAME, in this case I would treat this as a undumped game, putting a note about what roms are known to exist
