Title: Need Help with Clear Mame .DAT files!
Post by: Zrooney on 02 February 2012, 02:02
Hey guys, I recently discovered a but load of OLD ( '98) Roms on a CD for Mame.  I have been trying to use ClrMame to get these files up to snuff to use with the new Mame, but with no luck.  I downloaded the .Dat file for Mame .140 , and attempted to use this .dat file to resotre the roms so they can work with mame .144, but with no success.  So i set up the MAME.EXE as a .dat file and attempted to fix the ROM, but again with no success.  Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Also, when i scanned the Mame.Exe. It said it was missing over 3/4 of the files it needed.  So what the question i am asking is.  How do I rebuild old Roms into new, usable ones?

Profiler->Create->point to your latest MAME binary, select a description and let cmpro create the profile for you
Settings->Setup rompaths which point to your current collection
Scanner->enable all check/fix options and run a scan

After that you can think of a way how to add new files to your collection. Easiest would be to point the rebuilder destination path to your rompath and then simply drag'n drop new files in the scanner window. Rescan and repeat this until you don't have any issues listed.

Hi Zrooney,
A current Full Set of MAME 0.144 u7 ROMs is about 41 Gb in size.
So a handful of ROMs "on a CD" is probably -
just a bit short of a full set.

CMP is not able to convert old roms into new ones..
It can rename / move etc.
You are going to need to find all the new ROMs added since then.

well, lets say cmpro cant generate roms out of nothing. as long as conversion means operations like rename, resize, byte swap, delete, pad, remix sets (plus some more) or add missing files from other sources, then cmpro can easily convert.

if it comes to new files, you need them somewhere. the rebuilder can add them then automatically.
