Title: Windows XP Users
Post by: Roman on 17 August 2015, 06:42
Background: I've switched from Visual Studio 2008 (yes..ancient) to VS2015 now....From the installation process I know that there are extra optional settings to support Windows XP builds....

But..come on..it's 2015 and noone should really use XP anymore....

so.......is there really a need for having a clrmamepro built which supports Windows XP?

Well, the official MAME and most derivated builds still support XP. It's possible that many other people still uses it, besides me.
Please don't leave us behind. Thank you.

Well...Microsoft's XP support ended  April 2014...that's over a year...
Vista (I guess that's still supported by the default compile) was released Januar 2007, that's 8(!!) years ago Windows 7 October 2009, 6 years already

Actually I'm lazy ;-) It's already spending too much time to give out 32 and 64bit builds...another for XP...naaah....maybe I should also drop the 32bit one ;-)

Maybe I release a new version and wait till people start to moan....

Compiling the 32bit version is so much a nuisance?

Anyway, I know the support has ended for XP, but I have no reason to upgrade. IMHO, the recent OS have a lot of bloatware, with higher requirements, less compatibility and very few real advantages.

I'd rather running an OS without support as long as I have an antivirus, a firewall and a browser actively updated.

Later edit: actually, I could copy my whole romset in my office computer (which has Win 7) and run ClrMamePro from there. Then, using a pen drive, I can take back home the fixed sets for each new release. So you may even drop the XP support, no big loss for me ;-)
