Title: Special character ("Umlaute") issue
Post by: indigital on 10 December 2011, 21:15
2 computer systems:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate X64 (original) equipped with SP1 and latest updates
Language: German
Clrmamepro: 4.02
Filesystem: NTFS

On each of my 2 mostly identically configured computers Clrmame is installed and runs (almost) flawlessly.
Just on one computer Clrmame's insisting on "correcting" special characters in filenames is driving me nuts.

A striking example is:
In

Artwork - Computer - Commodore - Amiga - Extras (EEA Feb 16 2006).dat

the lines

game (
   name "Terramex lösung (Extra)"
   description "Terramex lösung (Extra)"
   rom ( name "Terramex lösung (Extra).jpg" size 227061 crc 0x095724bd md5 0xa1ac92ab420326835beb11da0fdeb147 sha1 0xac34f552ed888ea5ca9f571979880ac4eea4407e )
)

don't lead to

Terramex lösung (Extra).zip

but to

Terramex lsung (Extra).zip

I think I remember that french special characters are also concerned by that issue.

Other software, even not related to emulation, that uses DAT files handles special characters without any problem.

I would be pleased if someone can guide me to get out of that mess.

you need to use a datfile which is utf8 encoded. you can try to load it into notepad++ and save it as utf8 encoded (with or without Utf8 bom). be sure the special chars appear in notepad++ correcly.

Terramex lsung (Extra).zip
Is this being displayed in the scanner window ?
What about the actual file ?
In windows explorer view do you see a there ?

Do you know you can change the font of the "Scanner" results window.. ?
Are you using 4.02 of CMP on both systems ?

I'm pretty sure the datfile is not utf8 encoded.....
