Scan All to Fix Missing
« on: 23 December 2009, 21:21 »

I am a long-time CMP user and I noticed that a within the past few months or so that the fix missing by scanning all sets option was removed.  I found this option particularly useful for inappropriately named console/handheld sets.  I have a dedicated emulation computer so it does not concern me with how long the process takes.  It's still a hundred times faster than manually renaming each archive/folder.  In the past I used GoodTools for console auditing but I prefer ClrMamePro with No-Intro DATs now.

Is there any way to have the current version of ClrMamePro scan for missing ROMs in all zip files by using CRC32 or even SHA1/MD5 only?  If not, is there any possibility that this option will return?

Thanks.

The fix missing scans all sets option was lousy slow ;)
Use the rebuilder to add missing files. It's way faster, supports all hashes and is the recommended way to add missing files. You can simply drag'n drop files into the scanner tree window for this.

Ahhh ha.  That works perfectly.  Thanks for the clarification Roman.  I've always only used the Rebuilder to simply recompress sets.  I realize now that it basically works like a scan in reverse (scan concentrates on one set at a time and searches for files; rebuild concentrates on one file at a time and searches for the matching set).  That is definitely far more efficient than repeatedly scanning the same files every time a missing file is discovered.  I should have been using this all along!

Thanks for your ingenious tool.

yeah...you got it. Scanner is set based, rebuilder is file based.

Hi BloodShed Hi Roman....
:o i remember some years ago.... Roman make it again.... :(
There was the old forum and i ask to Roman to reintroduce this option... and Roman in the next relase insert my request!!! ;D
but now...

There are 2 ways to use the ClrMamePro:

1) The method of Roman - he did the program and knows him very well, so has the advantage of knowing what each setting is used, then it is probably very neat and his method is for people ordered.

2 The method of Batigol - (I write this only because I made a guide and many have learned to use the program as I have taught them), in practice with my method you put all the files you have in a folder (backup) and let Clrmame do everything by himself in one step, perhaps the night and the morning then hit OK and you're done. you just delete the contents of the backup (CMP checked and placed what was needed). In practice uses only the scan and the rest you can also forget.

PS after discovering that the new CMP did not have this option, I decided to learn to use the Roman method, so I no longer pray Roman to add the option ...

Thanks Roman CMP is always the miles program for my collection of ROMS!!!

Sorry for my bad english (google translate)

Well,

I can tell you what users usually do when a new version of MAME is out:

0) Load the MAME profile (Profiler detects a new version of the mame exe and auto-updates its database)
1) Scanner, got all check and fix options enabled...Do a new scan and let them fix all..

...after that you should only have missing files, the ones which were added/replaced in the new version

2) drag'n drop new sets into the scan results window with auto-scan after drag'n drop and drag'n drop internally uses the rebuilder, where the rebuilder destination points to the existing collection.
3) repeat 2) until nothing is listed anymore (ok...new chds need to be moved to any rompath though, cmpro will move them to their correct place)
