Title: Need some advice on Mame folder structure
Post by: Hopegoran on 01 November 2018, 14:30
Hello - I apologize if this has been asked already.  I'm new to using the set files provided by newuzer on PD.  Since the CHD and rom sets are in separate DAT files, ClrMame reports a lot of unneeded roms and "set archive and set folder exist in the same rompath" error messages when i use them. My rom path has all the chd sub-folders and rom sets in the same ROM folder.  I saw an earlier post about the <disk tags missing and they in the rom DAT file.

Looking for some advice on the best way to manage the roms and CHD's with these DAT files while avoiding all the unneeded and chd error messages.

Also, when i load the rom (split) dat file, ClrMame thinks i prefer Non-merged sets.  There is no way for me to click the Split Sets option.  Not sure if this will affect the scan.

Thank you for any advice and/or help

I think you should ask these questions on PD's forum.  ;)

If cmpro does not offer to switch the merge modes it simply means that your datfile does not provide any parent/clone relationships at all. I assume that the provided dat was prepared to have no parent /clone relationships but be a kind of flat datfile which does represent split sets. So nothing unusual.

If you have separate dats for chds and roms it shouldn't be a problem. You only need to separate the chds and roms in different rompaths, too. So one rompath holds all chd subfolders with the chds...which can be used/setup in the chd-profile and a separate rompath holds the romset archives and is used in the roms-only-profile.

In MAME you then simply add both rompaths in the ini...

But generally speaking...if you use both anyway...why use external dats at all and not directly import the data from the MAME binary...

He wants to use clrmamepro to join torrents at good percentages.

People at PD use custom dats, so importing data from MAME's binary won't 100% match the torrents.

Thank you for the replies.  What coccola says.  The MAME generated dat file seems to cause many errors and warnings for me.  I ended up moving all the CHD to a new folder to avoid these warnings. Maybe this will make it easier for me to maintain the library.  Thank you again for your replies.
