How to NOT scan/remove Mechanical games?
« on: 23 November 2011, 19:22 »

I wish to scan only for video games, and not have the massive extra amount of new fruit machine/mechanical games in the scan. When I went to scan I unticked Mechanical but I think they're still included as the results include all the MPU4 etc based systems.

How can one scan just for video games and make sure that mechanical games aren't included in the ROMset?

Cheers!

Scanner->Systems->untick mechanical is indeed the way to go.
Keep in mind that there are a lot "mpu4" sets which aren't tagged as mechanical in MAME.

If you want to exclude more you need can either try to do it via systems (if they use a bios), via exclude lists or via regular expressions if they somehow share something in their descriptions or manufacturers. THis is done in setinformation->select sets. For example a %s=mpu4.c plus ticking the logical not will exclude all sets which use the mpu4.c driver file.

Hi Roman, thanks for the help. I wondered which games were casino/fruit(e) machine (the ones I'd like to exclude) via MAWS, however there doesn't seem to be an easy way to collect the information of which to exclude.

Is there a way to exclude certain categories, like those in MAWS or perhaps those of a certain category in Mameinfo.dat file?

I also have no experience of the exclude path, etc, so any help would be awesome.

Basically I think that fruit machines killed off arcades (most arcades only have those in the UK) so I'd like to keep MAME as a collection of video games, not fruit machines (that don't even work in MAME!).

Cheers.

sorry I don't have such information. Easiest would be to have a look at the -listxml output to see which fields maybe useful for filtering.

exclude paths is by the way something else. To disable or filter out sets you go to scanner->setinformation->select sets.
